Antisocial: A Love Letter to the Nerds, Geeks, Weirdos, the Shy, the Timid, the Awkward, and Socially Anxious

Society calls you all kinds of things because of some perceived difference you have. They even pathologize you with “medical” mumbo-jumbo like “social anxiety.” Don’t let this sick society deceive you. There is absolutely nothing wrong with you. God made you the way you are for a reason, and with your gifts of philosophy, introspection, and self-reflection, you just need to figure out what that is.

We live in a society that privileges the party animals, the comedians, the talkatives, you know, the folks who want to be the center of attention. That’s the norm. They tell you that if you don’t follow this norm, then you’re not healthy. There’s nothing wrong with you, love. You’re a special kind. You just need to weed out all of the overrated, socially-constructed bullshit about “being popular,” “making friends,” and “opening up.” You need to, above all else, discover yourself, accept yourself, and love yourself. Don’t listen to what people say about you. You are smarter, wiser, more creative, and more loving than these people, and that’s why they do everything possible to break you down.

Yes you’re mysterious, yes you don’t like to talk much. You have a really small social circle, you get uncomfortable when you’re around a lot of people, you only participate in conversations and activities that are intelligent, and you’re awkward. You value the time you have to yourself, and there’s nothing wrong with that. You’re only hurting yourself when you try to change it. So please, don’t let anybody tell you that you’ll never get anywhere if you keep to yourself, if you don’t open up. Many men and women just like you went on to do great things. You can too.
